What kinds of program and activities will happen at CY2012? It all depends on which track you’re attending . . . . but we can pretty much guarantee that you’ll have a chance to participate in most of the things on this list!
- discussion groups, workshops, mission experiences, concerts, movies, theme presentations, exhibits, spirituality centre, service projects, worship, hanging out with new and old friends, food, fun, music, and much more.
When and where is Canada Youth 2012? The event takes place at Brock University in St. Catharines, ON, July 3 – 8, 2012. St. Catharines is in the heart of the Niagara region and Brock University is uniquely placed atop the city on the Niagara Escarpment. Brock is a small campus with great facilities and beautiful scenery . . . best of all they love hosting our Canada Youth events!!!
What does the registration fee cover? The registration fee of $500.00 pays for 5 nights of housing (linens provided), meals, facility and programming costs and a travel pool contribution. The registration does not include your travel costs.
What about transportation costs? Transportation costs are NOT included in the $500.00 registration fee. There is a travel subsidy that you may apply for prior to the event. Assistance will be provided based on need and distance and travel costs. Application will be made available online or by calling the CY Coordinator at 403-982-0094.
What about adults who would like to serve youth at this event as a volunteer for the week? First and foremost, adults are vital to youth participants when they serve as CY2012 Adult Advisors. Adult Advisors provide all kinds of care and supervision for youth participants at the event and also during travel time. Our insurance coverage and Living with Care compliance means that we need to have one Adult Advisor for every nine young people (same gender). Often congregations and presbyteries will cluster together to recruit Adult Advisors in order to ensure that young people can attend.
Adult Advisors do pay a registration fee, and most often congregations, presbyteries and synods offer subsidy and scholarships for this crucial volunteer role.
What is a “planning team?” The planning team is a group of youth and adults appointed by our denomination to plan Canada Youth 2012. They began work in the fall of 2010. Please include them regularly in your prayers.
What about special needs for participants? Most of the residences at Brock University and all of the classrooms and meeting spaces that we will be using are accessible to persons with disabilities. Please indicate on the registration form the special needs of participants and we will do all that we can to accommodate them.
Brock’s dining hall is very good at providing alternative meal options for folks. All we need to do is give them preparation time. Please indicate your needs on the registration form.
Where will I be housed? Participants will be housed in three Brock residence halls. Men and women will be housed on separate floors or separate wings. Most of the rooms in the residence halls are singles but there are a few rooms for two. There will be space on the registration form to request a roommate. Housing will be assigned by region at the event.
When will registration forms be available and where can I get one? Registration forms will be available in every congregation through PCPak during the month of November and online at the Canada Youth website – www.canadayouth.ca.
Where can I can more information . . . The best place to get up-to-date information is on the CY2012 web site www.canadayouth.ca.
